Moi dix Mois - DIXANADU
review by Ma_cherie

Dispell Bound: I think of this song as… the hymn of a sect or some sort of forbidden cult. Maybe that is the point after all… picturing enraptured fans saying D-I-X Dix in a concert; and I really love the image. Also, I am sure all the bandmembers (maybe even Mana!) repeat the chant together, isn’t that great? In general the melody succeeded in making me focus 100% on what I was listening to and forget about the rest of the world. It’s an extremely good intro.

Angelica: This may be one of the most surprising Moi Dix Mois’ songs I’ve heard; the rhythm, the music… everything changes so often; it can be divided into many different parts and I believe Seth proves that he can face any challenge, his vocals are amazing. I also told myself: “this is a cembalo song, it’s just so ‘pure’ in a way”. The efforts of the band must be appreciated; learning a song like this may not be easy at all. I’m really dying to read the lyrics…

Metaphysical: I’d point out the amazing twin-guitar dialogue. Overall it is a wild song full of life.

Exclude: My first thoughts on this song were ‘Oh! This reminds me so much of some Malice songs like N.p.s.n.p.g.’ N.p.s.n.p.g is not one of my favourite Malice songs at all, so I started to fear that Exclude would go on just like the beginning. But I started to find it amazing when I heard how the clear vocal parts mingle with the “death” voices. The overlapping Seth vocals deserve an A+. Is it ok to call it a “very wicked” song? I love the wickedness then.

Last Temptation: I was already suspecting that this was a review of Tentation but then I listened to the beginning it made my heart stop. I can’t help comparing them, even if I know comparisons are horrible. This is my idea: In the first version, I pictured Juka as a wicked devil opening the gates to hell (me and my mental images…). In the new one, everything sounds so… sacred! Mana mentioned the idea of a cathedral, and I think that is the point. Seth is an angel followed by a celestial choir. And both versions are like ying and yang, I think the point is that you need both to grasp the essence of this masterpiece. I really love the new version, it’s full of elegance and well maybe I am being partial because I like cathedral-related songs and angels…

Immortal Madness: I’m still trying to figure out the phrase starting with “dix…”… what does it say? I think this song is just too short T_T

Neo Pessimist: I have to admit I like the Dix Infernal version if Pessimiste more. I’m sure I will get to like the new one after more hearings because I am always shocked by the “industrial” style at first and then get to accept it (same happened to me with Deus ex Machina). It’s nice to imagine Seth in a concert with his black loudspeaker though!

Xanadu: Sugiya said that words are not necessary to describe this song. I agree. I will say that the slowest parts, with a wonderful Hayato and Sugiya plus Seth’s calm voice, are striking. This song… it really is a sort of paradise created by Mana, and he’s inviting us to it. 10/10 to the music, the tempo, the band members, and Mana-sama of course. With each tu-tum of the drums I can hear my heart beating…

A Lapis Nights Dream: I hope that Mana will develop this song in the future, as he said, because it makes such a nice beginning! Again, too short *cries*

Lamentful Miss: This is one of my favourite Moi Dix Mois songs; but honestly, I can’t tell the difference between the single version and this one. Not even the slight differences Mana mentions…

Lilac of Damnation: This song makes me think that I really want to read the lyrics. It seems to be an important part of a story. The guitars are superb again and I love the dialogue between Seth and the evil voices. Btw this is related to Mana’s famous cedar tree…

Sacred Lake: A quick, powerful glance at Mana’s magical land again. If you close your eyes, you can see them all there, the band members, together with Mana-sama, in a supernatural setting.

I think this album means a further step in Moi Dix Mois’ development. Part of its charm is that we finally get to hear these amazing members playing together in many different songs, and I’ll take the liberty to say that, for me, this is the definite Moi Dix Mois line-up. I hope Mana won’t change his mind about this; I’m really looking forward to see them all live again, performing these stunning songs. D-I-X…
